A super performance from the all action Lee Day was the catalyst for a win for Shanganamore over Mayo after a hugely entertaining Boys Division 7 Final.

Both sides battled from start to finish and the quality of football on display provided great entertainment for both sets of supporters.

One of the features of the game was the high standard of goalkeeping with Jamie Burke and Joshua Kelly in particular making a number of fine saves for their sides.

Mayo made the dream start to the game scoring the first 2-1 of the game with the goals coming from Jonah Kelly and Peter Grogan with Joshua Kelly adding the point from a long range free.

Shanganamore however began to take control and with Cian Hicks strong at the back, they scored the next 3-1 with goals from Alex Robinson, Ross Graham and Joshua Devereux. Mayo pulled a point back before the break to leave just two in it going into the second-half.

Shanganamore started the second period strongly with three unanswered points although it would have been more had it not been for another great save from Joshua Kelly. Mayo got right back into the game with a goal from John Brennan and from there to the finish, there was nothing to chose between two evenly matched sides. Two points from Jonah Kelly drew Mayo level but Shanganamore looked to have taken a decisive lead with another point from Lee Day and a goal from Joshua Devereu.

Again however, Mayo got back within one when Jonah Kelly showed great awareness to dispatch a quick free to the back of the net.

That left just one between the sides and set up a grandstand finish but it was Shanganamore’s man of the match Lee Day that settled the game with his fifth point to see his side to a two point victory.
