Ratheniska turned in a strong second half display to see off the challenge of Emo in this Allianz Boys Division 2 final last Thursday morning.
Just four points separated the teams at half time, but Ratheniska stepped things up in the second half, and a couple of top-class goals swung the game in their favour.
Emo battled right to the end, to their credit, but there was to be no denying a very impressive Ratheniska side on the day.
This game was something of a slow burner, as a strong wind made it difficult for both teams to get going. The first score arrived in the 14th minute thanks to a point from Patrick Hosey, but Ratheniska hit back in devastating fashion with a goal from Noah Fingleton.
James Connolly then curled over a couple of frees for the boys in green and gold, with Ross Meredith adding a point from a placed ball for Emo. The final say of the half went to Ratheniska though, as Connolly once again pointed, this time from play, to see his school lead 1-3 to 0-2 at the break.
Ratheniska got a good start to the second half with points from Noah and Simon Fingleton, before Colin Conroy took off on a slaloming run which ended with a precise shot into the bottom corner for Ratheniska’s second goal.
Patrick Hosey replied for Emo with a goal from a free, but it was quickly cancelled out by the goal of the game from Marc Ramsbottom. His rasping shot from distance flew into the top corner.
Sub DJ O’Brien Doyle added a fourth goal late on to put the seal on Ratheniska’s win.
