Clonaghadoo NS and Killeen NS played out one of the best finals in recent memory last Thursday evening in this Allianz Division 6 decider.
With a total of 19 goals and 19 points scored in a 40 minute game, it gives you some idea of the standard of football on show, as both teams went hell for leather at it.
It looked like it might end in a draw at one stage, but Clonaghadoo edged home by just two points. In truth, if it had gone to a replay, you could have sold tickets for it.
Clonaghadoo had the wind at their backs in the first half and made it count, although Killeen opened the scoring with a goal from Kevin Lambe. The Clonaghadoo response was swift, with David Dooley hitting a goal. Cian Ryle added a couple of points and Colin Dunne then got the first of his six goals for Killeen, as the pace of the game picked up.
Things were level-pegging at this stage, but the introduction of Ronan Hyland gave Clonaghadoo a big boost. He scored two goals, the second of which was a fantastic effort that saw him solo it over a defenders head before shooting to the top corner.
That put the boys in maroon 4-9 to 2-2 up at half time, but the best was yet to come. Colin Dunne scored 1-2 in four minutes after half time for Killeen, with Ronan Hyland resonding with the first of his three second half goals for Clonaghadoo.
That set the tone for what followed, with both teams scoring at will. Colin Dunne was outstanding, as he added four more goals for Killeen, while Hyland, David Dooley and Odhran Davis all found the net for Clonaghadoo.
With a minute to go the teams were level at 8-12 to 10-6, but a late Clonaghadoo goal drew just a point in response for Killeen to cap off a stunning game.
