The sharp-shooting of midfielder Eoin Gaughan helped Killanure to a Cumann na mBunscol hurling and football double last Friday, as they secured the Division 7 title against Trumera.

Gaughan teamed up with the equally impressive Mikey Doran to help his school to victory, with the two boys scoring 4-9 between them. For Trumera Adam O’Ciardhubhain really caught they eye with a top-class display, scoring 1-8.

Mikey Doran pointed early on to give Killanure a perfect start, with O’Ciardhubhain responding for Tromaire from a free. Eoin Gaughan then struck for the first goal of the game but O’Ciardhubhain was quick to respond for Trumera, and he scored two points from frees before a lovely point from play levelled the game at 1-1 to 0-4.

The rest of the first half was evenly contested, but Killanure were able to get in for goals, and that would prove to be a key difference between the teams over the course of the game. Eoin Gaughan, Mikey Doran and John Joe Phelan all struck for goals before the half time whistle, with O’Ciardhubhain responding for Trumera with well-taken frees. At half time Trumera had gotten eight scores to Killanure’s seven, but it was Killanure who still lead, 4-3 to 0-8.

Killanure kept pulling away in the second half, and when Mikey Doran struck for his second goal of the game with 13 minutes gone, it looked all over. O’Ciardhubhain responded well though, rifling a free to the back of the net for Trumera’s first goal, but unfortunately for them it wasn’t enough to reel in Killanure.

Oisin O’Faolain and Michael O’Sullivan traded goals late on but it was to be Killenure’s day as they ran out winners by four goals.
