A blistering first half performance from The Heath girls was enough to guide them past The Rock in the Division 4 Camogie final on Tuesday afternoon. While it was a terrific team performance, Erone Fitzpatrick caught the eye with a magnificent display on the O’Moore Park turf that she will surely grace on many occasions in the future.

The Rock girls put in a gritty performance with plenty of heart and they never stopped going, and huge credit must go to them for their improved second-half showing, but it wasn’t enough because The Heath had all but sealed the win in the opening half.

Erone Fitzpatrick got the heavy scoring underway with a typically strong run and shot. The Rock goalkeeper Grace Dempsey did well to deny Valerie Whelan soon after but it was attack after attack from The Heath girls and the scores came thick and fast. A Fitzpatrick point preceded her second goal from distance before The Rock finally got off the mark at the other end ten minutes in with a lovely score from Aine O’Neill.

Another Erone Fitzpatrick free cancelled that out before Aisling Boyle got in on the act with a close range shot that left Grace Dempsey with no chance. Aoife Daly followed suit with a terrific goal a minute later and The Rock were struggling to cope. Erone Fitzpatrick added another two goals as the half drew to a close before further scores from Aisling Boyle and Aoife Daly handed The Heath a massive 7-3 to 0-1 lead at the break.

It couldn’t have been easy for The Rock girls to continue their battling performance given the scoreline but that they did and in the second half they proved much more of a match for their opponents. It says a lot about them that they showed such heart and even after conceding two more goals early in the second half from Aisling Boyle and Grace O’Brien The Rock girls kept going and got their rewards.

Aine O’Neill raced clear to get her side’s first goal of the game and although Aoife Daly claimed her third goal at the other end it was The Rock who finished stronger. Aine O’Brien smashed a fierce free into the roof of The Heath net and she finished the scoring with a neat point a minute before the end. The Heath won’t worry about that however as they had already done more than enough to claim the trophy.
