Rosenallis made up for the disappointment of losing out in last year’s final by claiming a two goal win over St Colman’s of Stradbally in this pulsating final last Wednesday.
Rosenallis had Pearse Kelly to thank for helping them to win this game, as he turned in a super performance to score a hat-trick and inspire those around him to come back from a losing position to claim the win.
Daniel Bowe got the first of twelve goals in this one for Stradbally in the first minute, but Billy Friel and Pearse Kelly responded Rosenallis and by the time ten minutes had passed, Rosenallis were in front.
Stradbally isn’t known as a hurling stronghold but these young hurlers showed plenty of skill and fighting spirit to come back into the game, and two goals from distance by Jack Langton saw them take the lead at half time, 3-2 to 2-4.
Again it was Stradbally who found scores that bit easier to come by at the start of the second half, with Cairan Fennessy scoring a goal and Leon Lawlor chipping in with a point as it looked like it was going to be St Colman’s day.
With just over seven minutes to go St Colman’s had a five point lead, but Rosenallis then sprung into life. Two goals from Pearce Kelly and one from Eoin Dunne shocked the Stradbally boys, as Rosenallis now took the lead by three points.
Showing great fighting spirit, Stradbally put a great move together which resulted in Ciaran Fennessy firing a shot past Gearoid Carroll to level the game with time quickly running out.
That set the game up for a grandstand finish, and that was exactly what the supporters got, as Rosenallis held their nerve to score two late goals from Jason Keating and Eoin Dunne to secure a memorable victory.
