An incredible five-goal haul from Camross’ Donnagh Mortimer helped the girls in black and amber to a well-deserved victory over Derrylamogue last Wednesday in the Division 1 camogie final.

The game had started out evenly as both sides showed some nerves on the big occasion, but after Kristin Keenan pointed for Camross, they settled into the game a lot quicker than Derrylamogue.

Once Camross were in control it was over to Donnagh Mortimer to lead the way, as she hit three goals in the space of five minutes to give Camross a commanding advantage. Molly Donnery was also in fine scoring form, and she hit a brace to really leave Derrylamogue in trouble.

It wasn’t looking good for Derrylamogue at this stage, but the impressive Rosemary White gave them something to cheer when she tapped over two frees to give her side some reward for their efforts. That left the half-time score reading 6-4 to 0-2 in Camross’ favour, and already it looked as though things here going to be very difficult for Derrylamogue.

In the early stages of the second half it was the deadly Camross duo of Donnagh Mortimer and Molly Donnery who showed their clinical touch in front of goal, as Mortimer hit two more and Donnery hit one, to bring their tally between them to eight.

Those three goals left over 30 points between the teams, and Derrylamogue could consider themselves unlucky, as they were trying their hearts out but just couldn’t get the scores they needed.

Rosemary White had the final say in the game though, as she went on an impressive run through the Camross defence before firing over one of the scores of the game. It made little difference to the final outcome, but it was a score which both White and Derrylamogue deserved.

For the winners, Donnagh Mortimer and Molly Donnery impressed, while Roisin Gordon and Rosemary White tried hardest for Derrylamogue.
