Derby delight as The Rock down Mountmellick

The first of last Saturday’s encounters in O’Moore Park was unremarkable to say the least, but that won’t bother The Rock in the slightest after a comfortable six point victory over Mountmellick.

The first of last Saturday’s encounters in O’Moore Park was unremarkable to say the least, but that won’t bother The Rock in the slightest after a comfortable six point victory over Mountmellick.

The Rock 0-12

Mountmellick 0-6

Both these teams’ prerogative for the 2012 season is surely survival, and The Rock have relieved themselves of relegation worries which is always the bane of first round losers.

The damage from which Mountmellick would never recover from was done between the 9th and 27th minutes. The Rock outscored their opponents 0-5 to 0-0 during that period, where incidentally each of The Rock’s five different scorers on the night kicked the five points.

The Rock extended their half time lead to six points five minutes into the second half and from there they were never in danger of losing the game.
