The opening game at O’Moore Park on Sunday at noon in the Sparrow Insurances Senior Football Championship brought together the new ‘celebrity’ kids on the block and last years intermediate champions Killeshin and perennial championship contenders Arles Kilcruise.

Arles Kilcruise 0-13

Killeshin 0-8

On the night however the debutants flattered to deceive as experience won out in a highly competitive battle. Killeshin brought plenty of exuberance but it was their youth and inexperience that was to deny them victory on their debut as a Ross Munnelly led Kilcruise took all they could muster and then blew them away with a clinical second half scoring display without exerting themselves near the limit.

While Killeshin were just a point in arrears at half time 0-6 to 0-5, it was Arles Kilcruise that killed off the game at the start of the second half as they hit five unanswered points and all of them magnificent efforts from play. They may have perfected the defensive game but they showed that they can score as well with a succession of beautiful points.

On the other side Killeshin could only manage one second half point from play and that with the aid of the upright in the 30th minute of the half.
