The Annual Garda All-Ireland 60x30 Championships were hosted at The Garda Depot, Phoenix Park where Paddy Donovan of Laois was one of the pre-tournament favourites.
Paddy played determined handball to make it through to the senior final where he faced Bob Byrne of Bridgetown. This was an eagerly awaited replay of the previous year’s final that Byrne had edged in a tight competitive affair.
Byrne was to make a bright start to the final building up an early lead however, it was Donovan who showed the greater court craft and slowly reeled in his opponent.
Once the Laois handballer took the lead he never relented and went on to capture the Tom Langan Cup for the first time since 2010.
On Sunday, October 13, Laois GAA Handball will run the first ever Laois juvenile One-Wall handball tournament at the Cullohill Handball Club.
There will be both boys and girls competitions on the day. Handball at juvenile level is growing at a rapid pace within the county and this tournament will give our younger handballers the opportunity to showcase their talents.
All spectators are welcome with the tournament beginning at 11.30am.
