Emo charge comes too late to stop Portlaoise

ACFL Division 1 Final

Portlaoise 0-14

Emo 1-8

Their second-half fightback was admirable but Portlaoise’s big-game experience told and Emo came up short. Emo never held the lead at any stage in their first appearance at a Division 1 league final since their win over The Heath in 2005.

Portlaoise lead by 0-8 to 0-5 at Joe Brennan’s half-time whistle and that lead grew to six in the second-half.

However Emo threw off the shackles and battled back bravely and Portlaoise lead down to a solitary point with four minutes left.

Portlaoise responded again however and rbuilt a three point lead with time running out.

Emo had one last chance when a long punt into the area saw a loose ball fall for Paul Lawlor but he just let it slip past his feet and the final whistle sounded seconds later to end the Emo charge.
