Seamas Plunkett was confirmed as the next manager of the Laois senior hurlers at a specially convened meeting of the County Committee on Monday night.
His appointment brings to an end an exhaustive search for a replacement to Teddy McCarthy, which had been spearheaded by Plunkett, along with Paul Cuddy. Cuddy will also be part of the new management team.
Plunkett’s appointment left the minor managers job vacant, but Laois GAA moved quickly to fill the void with Pat Critchley set to succeed Plunkett. Tony Doran was set to be confirmed for a second year as U-21 manager last night also.
It follows a whirlwind few days since last Tuesday night’s convention, with new chairman Gerry Kavanagh wasting little time in solving the managerial crisis with the senior hurlers. The new setup had been put in place by last Friday night, while Plunkett and Cuddy will now begin the process of finding suitable candidates for their backroom team.
