Eugene Quigley - RIP
There was much sadness in Mountmellick GAA club with the sad news that Eugene Quigley had passed away. Eugene served the club in a range of capacities over the years. As well as training juvenile hurling teams, he also acted as the club’s Juvenile chairman. He also took an active role in the county juvenile GAA committee as well acting as a referee. A thorough gentlemen and a pure diplomat, Eugene will be sadly missed especially at the club’s meetings as he was always available to make an invaluable contribution. One of Eugene’s last tasks as a member of the county board was to present Ballyfin-Mountmellick the trophy after beating Camross-Clonaslee in the U-16 B hurling final last October. On the day he was especially proud as his son Eoghan brought off a superb save to keep the team in the game at a crucial time. Eugene’s funeral was one of the biggest seen in Mountmellick and was a wonderful testament to the contribution Eugene made to the lives of many who knew him. The club sends our sympathies to his wife Caroline, daughter Laura and sons James and Eoghan on their loss. Ar dheis de go raibh a anam.
