There was a good attendance at Saturday’s AGM in the old school in Vicarstown. Chairman Bobby Miller welcomed all the members and looked back on another busy year for the club. Despite ultimate disappointment on the field, there was still a junior final appearance to be proud of and plenty to build on for 2014.
Off the field there was more progress made and our new floodlights are now fully operational and ready to use for the coming season.
Secretary Martin Ryan and Treasurer James Miller also presented comprehensive reports on the past 12 months. James, however, has decided to step down from his role after six years but he leaves behind a healthy set of accounts and the club would like to thank James for his great work over the last number of years. Steven Miller was elected as the new Treasurer and Darran Hennessy replaces Steven as PRO.
Robert Miller (Glasshouse) was elected President to replace the late Tom Gorman while Johnny Keane, James Miller (Rathcrea), Chris Miller (The Grove), Robert Miller (Rathmore) and Terry O’Connell were elected as vice-presidents.

County Board Tickets
The annual Laois GAA County Board €130 tickets are now in circulation. As always this is the club’s main source of income for the year and is a necessary revenue stream in order to run the club. There are a number of options available in terms of buying the tickets - in terms of monthly direct debits - and all support is greatly appreciated.
There will be a players meeting for intermediates and juniors in the old school in Vicarstown on Saturday, January 25, at 6.30pm. All players are encouraged to attend.
Ballyfin Juvenile GAA held their annual AGM on Friday last at the Deadman’s. Comprehensive reports were delivered by the outgoing secretary Marie McEvoy, Chairman Brendan Connolly and Treasurer Eddie Fitzpatrick.
Both the Chairman and Secretary thanked those who supported and helped at our successful Field Day which was held at the Community College in Portlaoise during the Summer, also to all who purchased County Board tickets or Monthly/Christmas draw tickets. Thanks was also extended to the teenagers that attend our monthly disco along with those who assist with its supervision.
The Chairman was pleased to announce the completion of the upgrading of both the Senior and Juvenile pitches, along with the installation of a walkway around the perimeter of the pitches that will be of benefit to the whole Community. The Chairman acknowledged the collective effort of both the Senior and Juvenile Committees in bringing this work to fruition.
Thanks was extended to Mountmellick GAA for their continued support throughout the redevelopment of our own playing facilities.
Reports were made by the mentors of each of the Juvenile team’s after which the Chairman expressed his appreciation for the commitment made by all the mentors and hoped that the would all be willing to renew that effort in the coming year.
The outgoing Committee was re-elected with the welcome addition of Yvonne O’ Neill as Assistant Treasurer in place of stalwart Gerard Ryan.

SENIOR CLUB AGM
In what a was an extremely well attended AGM, the committee for the new 2014 Senior season was elected. The following are the new committee members:- President: Johnny Delaney. The committee wish to express their thanks for all the great support from the community and hope that this will continue over the next year as we aim to continue our great progress at Senior, Junior and underage levels. Fundraising is a necessary part of running a successful club and one of our key fundraising activities is through the County Board draw tickets. Purchase of a county board draw ticket also gives you one years free club membership. It would be great to see a big uptake in membership this year and new members are always welcome. Tickets are available from Committee members.
The Juvenile AGM took place last Friday evening and was well attended. A full Committee and a committed group of mentors and trainers were elected. The Committee are Chairman: John Joe Doyle, Vice-Chairman: Paul McWey, Secretary: Michael Fitzpatrick, Assistant Secretary:- Pauric Purcell, Treasurer: Jim McEvoy, Assistant Treasurer: Karl Mulhall. A list of mentors/trainers are available from the Club Secretary. The Committee and mentors are wished all the best for the coming year and with such an enthusiastic bunch of kids to work with its sure to be a rewarding one.
The Biggest Loser
The biggest loser is back again this year. After a big turn out for last years event registeration takes in local hall next Friday 17th January at 8pm. The first weigh in takes place on the night. The programme is for eight weeks and weigh in takes place every Friday at 8pm. Price is €30 on night or €5 per night. Like last year If enough people are interested the group will arrange a night for group walk.
Michael Duignan and Brent Pope will take centre stage at a special night on Thursday, January 16, 2014, celebrating positive living and the role sport can play in this.
The event is being hosted and organised by the Borris in Ossory Kilcotton GAA Club, but is open to the entire local community and members of any other local clubs. It will take place in St. Josephs NS Borris in Ossory and commences at 7.30pm.
The night will follow a relaxed and engaging format with MC Damien Lawlor (Sunday Indpendent) teasing out an array of interesting conversation topics from the two celebrity pundits and former sports stars. They will be joined on the night by Colin Regan, GAA Community and Health Manager, and Susan Kenny, of the National Office for Suicide Prevention. The discussion forum will also allow for much interaction from the audience and a large crowd is expected.
The event is designed to help promote a culture of positive mental health both in the club and the wider local community. The club’s new ASAP policy will be launched on the night, which is another of the club’s efforts to ensure that everyone who passes through it benefits from a positive health experience.
It will take place in in St. Josephs NS Borris in Ossory on Thursday, January 16th, at 7.30pm, and ADMISSION IS FREE.

Clubs and County Board Draw
Tickets are now on sale at €130 for the annual Club and County Draw. Proceeds from these tickets continue to be the main fundraiser for the club and we would hope the draw would be well supported like previous years. Tickets can be purchased from committee members.
Clonad Juvenile Club will begin a series of indoor hurling sessions at Portlaoise College on Thursday next, 16th January for seven weeks. U8s will play from 6 – 7pm and U10s will play from 7 – 8pm. This will be no charge for these sessions and potential participants should register their interest with Pat Cahill, Juvenile Chairman at 086 -2770097, Kevin Grace, Juvenile Secretary at 085 – 8001744 or Liam Ahern, Indoor Hurling Co-ordinator at 086 – 1564018. Tracksuit and runners should be worn for the sessions and indoor hurleys and helmets are available.
After a busy year both on and off the field, the Clonad GAA AGM was held at the clubhouse on Sunday, 5th January. Paddy Ging, Secretary, in his report outlined the activities on the hurling field and congratulated the Intermediate team on their victory in the league and the U16s on their league success. He also congratulated the U21s on reaching their championship final. Paddy also outlined progress in other areas of the club including progress with the juveniles, the development of a strategic plan for Clonad and details of social activities for the year.
Tim Browne, Treasurer, produced a financial report showing details of the initiatives that took place to ensure that the club could remain innovative and function properly in 2013. He thanked all who supported financial endeavours during the year and called on all members to support him in what will be a financially challenging year ahead. Gerry Kavanagh reported on the work of the Development Committee and on their plans for 2014 when they intend to begin further work within the Clubhouse.
Chairperson, John Bergin, on behalf of the club, gave an overview of progress in 2013 and plans for 2014. He noted that the main highlights of the year included a very constructive players meeting to agree details of hurling in 2014, the introduction of a new texting and email system to improve communication, the purchase of an alarm system and a new mower for the grounds, the development of a membership car sticker and an overall increase in the sale and volume of club gear being sold and worn.
He also thanked all who had organised and supported the social outings in 2013 incluing the Night at the Dogs, the trip to the Leinster Hurling final, the annual fun day and the Christmas gathering.
The new Intermediate Management team was ratified and John wished them the best for 2014. The Manager is Paul Bergin and his selectors are John Fennell and Paddy Norton. Paul Bergin replaces Paddy Ging who did huge work as manager of the Intermediates in 2013, when he balanced team management with his role as club secretary.
John outlined his main objectives for 2014 when he hopes to increase cohesiveness in the club between all members and to increase funds coming into the club, increase the number of social outings and, most importantly, launch and begin implementation of the five year Strategic Plan.
The Chairman finished by thanking his fellow officers, the Committee Members, club members, supporters of lotto and county board draw, team supporters, club sponsors, parents of younger members and all who supported the club with catering, grass cutting, fundraising, maintenance and in any other way. He asked all present to spare a thought for those associated with the club who had passed away and, in particular, Paddy Whelan who was a long standing member and supporter of Clonad.

Happy New Year
The club would like to wish all its members and supporters a very happy and healthy new year. We would also like to wish the new intermediate management team of Paul Bergin, Paddy Norton, John Fennell, and their charges, every success in 2014.
Emo will hold their adjourned AGM on Friday the 17th of January in Emo Community Centre at 8 o’clock. Membership registration will be held at 7 o’clock the same evening. Membership for 2014 is €10.
Laois All County Clubs Member draw tickets are now for sale. Club members will be distributing them out in the coming days, as this is our main fundraiser for the year your support will be very gratefully appreciated. Tickets can be purchased at a cost of 130 euro, you can also pay it over the four months at a cost of 32.50.
First draw will take place on Friday March 7th in the laois couty board offices. Results will be published on the Laois website www.laoisgaa.ie on the night of each draw. First prize each month is 10,000 with 19 additional prizes for each draw.
Croke Park are running a draw which will take place on March 17th, all prizes are being funded by Croke Park as a way of giving money back to the clubs. Tickets are 10 euro if interested in purchasing a ticket you can contact any committee member.
Naomh Éamann Juvenile Club AGM will take place this Saturday 18th January at 7.45pm in the ICA Hall Castletown. All are Welcome. The club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our supporter, sponsors, members and families for all there help in 2013.
Rathdowney-Errill GAA club recently held their AGM in Rathdowney clubrooms. Outgoing Chairman Justin Kavanagh welcomed everyone in attendance. He thanked all the team mentors, committee and anyone who helped out in 2013. Secretary Raymond Kelly gave a detailed report on the clubs performances at all levels. Treasurer Pat Whelan outlined the clubs finances. There was a large turnout on the day and many topics were discussed for the coming year. Officers elected for 2014:Chairperson-Francis Carroll, Vice Chairperson -Justin Kavanagh, Secretary-Alex Stenson, Asst. Secretary-Raymond Kelly, Treasurer-Pat Kelly, Asst. Strictly Come Dancing
Rathdowney-Errill Hurling club and St Brigid’s Camogie club are hosting “Strictly Come Dancing” in the Templemore Arms on Saturday March 1st 2014. Preparations for this event are well underway. This guarnatees to be an enjoyble night for all. Limited number of tickets will be available so it will be first come first served. Tickets will be available from both Hurling and Camogie committees.
Hard luck to our Laois Seniors who were defeated by 3 points in their first outing against NUIG on Sunday 12th in Rathdowney GAA Grounds. Joe Fitzpatrick, Brian Campion and John Purcell featured on the day with Patrick Purcell and Ross King also part of the panel.
Our Juvenile AGM was held recently in Rathdowney clubrooms. Chairperson James Meagher welcomed eveyone in attendance, during his address he thanked all who made 2013 a successful year for Rathdowney-Errill. Secretary Breda Bergin gave a detailed account of all events on and off the field for 2013. Treasurer Mick Purcell also gave a detailed account of all finances. Those elected for 2014 were as folllows: Chairperson-James Meagher, Vice-Chairperson-David Campion, Secretary-Breda Bergin, Asst. Secretary-Karen Treacy , Treasurer- Mick Purcell, PRO- Paula Loughman. Committee-Georgina Galvin, Eddie Treacy, Louise Fitzpatrick, Lorcan Dunne, Cyril Handcock, Ray Galbraith, Kieran Bowe, Aidan Doyle, David Moore, Michelle Bourke.
The Annual Presentation Night will take place this Friday night January 17 in O’Loughlin’s Hotel in Portlaoise. The event will provide a fitting occasion for players, mentors and supporters to reflect on, and celebrate, the successes of the past year. Medals will be presented to the 2013 winning teams for the Leinster Senior Club Championship, the Laois Senior Championship, the Laois League Division 1, the Laois Intermediate Championship and the Laois Minor Championship. Slieve Bloom held their A G M Sunday, January 5 and there was a great turn out from members. Congratulations to Benny Conroy on his appointment as Chairman. Other committee members are Joseph Heffernan Vice-Chairman; Robert Nolan Secretary; Sean Breen Treasurer; Jack Lowry Honorary President; Martin Fitzpatrick, Pake Phelan, Jim Heffernan, Joe Heffernan, Jimmy Conroy Honorary Vice- Presidents. Philip Holmes Children’s Officer and ASAP Officer; Tony Phelan Public Relations Officer; Gavin Conroy Players Representative Officer. A large Committee was elected. Many thanks to John Paul Campion, who stepped down from the Chairman’s position, for all his hard work over the years its a very demanding role thankfully John Paul is still on our committee and still has a lot to contribute to the club he is also County Board delegate.
We are delighted we have one lady on our committee and we wish Pauline Phelan well.

St Fintan’s Gaels
St Fintan’s Gaels Juvenile GAA will hold their AGM in Shanahoe Club House on Friday 17 January at 8pm. All parents and guardians are invited to attend and new members are most welcome. St Fintan’s Gaels calendars for 2014 are now available at a cost of 10 euro each from John Sinnott or Seamus Lahart.
The Great Heath 10k
The day is almost upon us, as our annual 10k road race takes place this Sunday. The race starts at 11am outside the clubhouse, and as we are expecting 700+ runners on the day it is very important that everyone possible makes themselves available to help steward the event. It only takes an hour, and helps to ensure the smooth running of the event, which is essential to it’s future success. If you can help out on the day, please contact Michael Lenihan on 087-7526681.
