A superb second half performance saw Laois’ senior hurlers claim a Leinster SHC semi-final place, as they had too much for Carlow on Sunday, who themselves finished with just a dozen players on the field.
Leinster SHC quarter-final
John Meyler’s men had three players sent off in the closing five minutes as the frustration of a disappointing day for them seemed to come to a head. They had been competitive for most of the opening half, until Laois went on a run of ten unanswered points either side of half time to kill the game as contest.
Carlow offered a brief resistance, hitting back with four unanswered points themselves, but they flattered to deceive. A couple of points form Laois put that run to an end, and then a Zane Keenan goal from a free ended the game as a contest.
It didn’t spell an end for the action on the field, however, as there was still time for headline making. Carlow lost three players to red cards in the closing minutes, but it mattered little either way.
