Portlaoise made history in O’Moore Park on Sunday afternoon, as a clinical second half performance saw them claim a record fifth Laois SFC title in a row with a six point victory over Graiguecullen.

Portlaoise 1-12

Graiguecullen 1-6

It was a fully deserved victory too, as they had dominated possession for most of the game but only reflected that dominance on the scoreboard in the second half. After half time they created some wonderful scores, as the overall strength of their side came to the fore, with Craig Rogers’ wonderful goal capping off a fine team performance.

Graiguecullen had fought the good fight for as long as they could, but in the end they just didn’t have enough about them to really trouble Portlaoise. If this squad have shown anything over the last couple of years, however, it is that they learn from experiences like this, and no doubt they will come back from this defeat.
