“All services at the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise are under threat.”
That is the stark warning from family doctors in Laois who believe the plan for the hospital is set to signpost a complete downgrade.
The GPs have not seen the document but are aware of some of the proposals, via colleagues in the hospital and in Dublin.
They believe the plan to shut the Portlaoise's Emergency Deparment will have the domino effect of closing paediatrics and maternity services.
