Sunday is D-day for Laois Rose of Tralee contestants

Laois' two representatives at the Rose of Tralee will find out this weekend if they are make the cut to take part in the televised stages of this year's contest.

This year's Laois Rose is Kate Hyland and the Abu Dabi Rose is Dearbhladh Walsh, who hails from Portarlington. Both young women were contestants in the qualifiers in the Dome this week.

The Rose of Tralee organisers will announce on Sunday the final list of contestants who will go before the TV cameras next Monday and Tuesday night, August 22-23.

Apart from being from Laois, Kate and Dearbhladh have a lot in common. Both young women are friends and teaching colleagues and at the Presentation Convent National School in Portarlington.

Latest betting from Boyle Sports put Dearbhladh at 20/1 while Kate has drifted out to 50/1.

Portarlington Credit Union were delighted to welcome the contestants and another Portarlington teacher, Conor Mitchell, who is an escort in The Rose of Tralee, to their offices last week.
