Thousands of litres of costly drinking water are being wasted in Laois but just a small fraction of householders have had their leaks fixed, according to Irish Water.
The State-owned company said leakage of water from the network is a serious problem, including inLaois.
“Lost water is estimated at 47% nationally based on figures from the national metering programme, and 45% across Laois based on 2015 figures,” it said.
Figures to the end of March this year showed however that that only 256 householders in Laois have benefited from Irish Water’s First Fix Free scheme.
The utility urged more householders to avail of the free service. It said 1,848 ' customer-side' leaks have been found in Laois. More details on www.water.ie/water-supply/first-fix/
