An extraordinary general meeting has been called of Laois Tourism to elect a new board as part of a revamp of the body to boost local tourism.
At next week's public meeting in Portlaoise, which is also the annual general meeting, it is proposed to elect a new board of Directors to represent the Tourism Sector from across the County.
Laois Tourism Officer Dom Reddin said the Board of Laois Tourism has been going through some changes recent months and is trying to get more people from the tourism sector across the county involved by been electing a new board or registering as a member.
He said that the Board’s Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association are out of date and the board wants to make some changes to these documents. This can only do so by calling an EGM to pass it by the members.
“To date the Board have heavenly depended on the support of Laois County Council and feel they need to be far more independent and be more represented by the Tourism Trade/Sector.
The Annual General Meeting has been called to elect a new committee, get the membership back up and try and get the sector more interested and working collectively to promote the County and build on the development of a cohesive tourism development strategy and achieve a positive foothold in the tourism industry and benefit on an ongoing basis, from a far higher market share of this lucrative sector in the County.
The Board are also about to have a Tourism Development Strategy (2017 – 2022) completed for Co. Laois which will be a plan for the development and future promotion of the County.
All past members registered with Laois Tourism have been invited and the meeting is open to new and existing people / businesses in the trade to participate and to the public who may also feel they have something to contribute. Both meetings have also been advertised in this week’s Leinster Express.
The proposed composition of the new board will be nominated from the sectors listed below.
Hotel industry, food/Catering, recreation and sport, self catering / B&B, activity tourism, other county tourism bodies, Laois Heritage Forum, arts / culture, festivals & events, publicans
All interested parties are invited to attend.
