Emo based artist, Brendon Deacy whose exhibition 'Unfettered Man of Letters' featured at the School criticised government policy on the arts and heritage.
He contrasted the perception of Irish art and culture at home, as opposed to the positive way it was perceived abroad. “We have a situation where Arts and culture, rural and gaeltacht have all been squashed into the same government department. I believe that is a travesty.
“If you want to see programmes like this continue get onto your public reps. The arts needs significant funding.”
Catriona Crowe echoed this. “It's the Department of Arts Heritage and whatever your having. What a rag bag. That is a way of saying we do not care as a government about arts and culture. They have been doing this for a long time. We need to rethink how we deal with arts heritage and culture.”
