Works on the pedestrian crossing at Fairgreen in Portlaoise are almost completed, with the crossing expected to be operational in October.
The news was given at Laois County Hall recently, in response to separate motions raised by Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley and Cllr Jerry Lodge.
Welcoming the announcement, Cllr Dwane Stanley said the crossing was badly needed, as the Topaz on the Mountmellick Road was the local shop.
“It will benefit the area,” she said.
Cllr Lodge said it was almost five years since the councillors had first proposed the crossing.
“Older people are not as quick on their feet,” he said.
Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald also said it was a very good location for a pedestrian crossing.
