A 30kph speed limit is to be set at busy times outside six Laois schools, if the council get government cash to install flashing signs at the “periodic sites”.
The limits would revert to standard speeds outside of school times.
“Applications for funding are being prepared for periodic sites where variable message signage will be in place to reduce speed limits on particular hours of certain days. Six sites for 30kph are being looked at initially on national and regional roads,” the council CEO John Mulholland announced at the September council meeting.
The council have not yet clarified which schools have been chosen, but hope to add more schools to the list.
Laois has 75 schools, 67 primary and eight secondary.
