Court - Charged with sexual assaults

A 42-year-old Laois man has been charged with sexual assaults.

The alleged offences occurred in Portlaoise in August 2015.

At last week’s sitting of Portlaoise District Court, Garda Anthony Floyd served a book of evidence on the accused.

There were two charges in the book of evidence, under section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act, 1990, relating to sexual assault.

Solicitor, Mr Gerry Meagher was assigned, along with one junior counsel and one senior.

The matter has gone forward to the next sitting of the circuit court on November 29.

There was a third charge against the accused, and this matter was adjourned to October 20 next, for a guilty plea to be entered, or a book of evidence to be served on the accused..
