Irish Water has started site investigation work ahead of a substantial upgrading water mains in towns and villages around Laois.

The Laois Water Mains Rehabilitation Project should see aging water mains replaced which the company says should lead to water pressure to homes and businesses and improve the security of the water supplies to communities in Laois.

The scope of the project includes for the replacement of 8.5km of old defective water mains and associated service connections. The areas included in the project are: Ballylinan; Borris Little, Portlaoise; Erkindale Drive, Durrow; Ballycoolan, Guileen, Clopook; Pearse Street, Mountmellick; Shannon Street, Mountrath; Castletown, Mountrath; Harbour Street, Mountmellick.

To facilitate the design of the project, internal surveys will need to be carried out by RPS Consulting Engineers on behalf of Irish Water in customers’ homes and businesses.

Work began in October.
