Councillors going to Dáil to demand to be heard

All 19 Laois' councillors are to head up to Dáil Éireann to demand a meeting with Minister for Health Simon Harris, and demand a future for Portlaoise hospital.

Cllr Willie Aird proposed the unprecedented action, urging everyone concerned about the hospital to go along, on Wednesday November 9.

“Our backs are to the wall. We should show solidarity. I guaranteed if 19 go, we will be met by our three TDs,who will request a meeting. We want the whole town to go, the hospital action committee and Msgr Byrne,” he said, seconded by Cllr John Joe Fennelly.

Cllr Jerry Lodge also proposed a vote of no confidence in the upcoming report by Dr Susan O'Reilly, on the grounds that she was biased towards a downgrade before she wrote it, seconded by Cllr Padraig Fleming.
