Two men arrested on as part of the investigation into the murder of gang;land figure Gerard Eglington were last night (November 8) released without charge.
The arrests were made on Monday, November 7, as part of a garda investigation into the murder of Eglington (27), in the Kilnacourt Woods Housing Estate on the morning of the September 24, 2012.
The two men, aged 21 and 34, were detained in the Kevin Street area of south inner city Dublin.
Both were being held at Portlaoise Garda Station under the provisions of section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1039.
Eglington, a convicted criminal, lived in the house with his partner and children. From Crumlin, he retained gangland connections in Dublin. It was reported at the time that he was gunned down in front of his children.
Gardaí believe he had been the subject of a number of failed murder attempts. Eglington had also been involved in a number of violent incidents in Portarlington.
