Gardaí are to meet traders in Portlaoise to discuss a recent spate of crime in the town.

Sergeant Mark Doran from Portlaoise Garda station has extended an invitation to all traders to attend a meeting in the Parish Centre on Monday, December 5.

This meeting with is to discuss his concerns about recent thefts and general anti social behaviour in the area of late, with particular attention being paid to the fact we are entering our busy period.

The Portlaoise Downtown traders group say the meeting agenda affects all traders so it is important there is as good a turn out as possible, to show that business is taking this seriously and wants to help with the solution.

The meeting follows a number of incidents in the town in which property was damaged, thefts were carried out and people were attacked.
