Lions celebrating ten years in Port

With some members having 25 years’ experience as Lions having previously served in the Monasterevin/Portarlington club, Portarlington Lions Club are celebrating ten years having been chartered in its own right in July 2007.

One of the highlights of the past 10 years in Portarlington was the hiring of Newbridge Greyhound track for a night, where €47.000 was raised, enabling the club to finance a new Ford Galaxy for Oak House Portarlington.

The club has gone from strength to strength since, winning Club of the Year last year.

This accolade was presented to us for our work organising the Free Diabetes Screening at the Ploughing Championships for its duration in Ratheniska.

Recently we held our Annual Charity Hunt, with over 90 horses and riders involved, raising €3000 on the day.

President Gerry Dunne extends his gratitude to the local land owners, Supervalu, auction and raffle sponsors, all volunteers and The Railway Bar for their hospitality.

The Lions Christmas food appeal will run from Wednesday, December 21 to Friday, December 23 in Centra Main Street and Supervalu Portarlington, where any non-perishable items or donations will be very much appreciated from whom, to date, is a very generous public. They look forward to seeing you all there.
