There were over 170 teams taking part in this event, and with some windy, hot and humid conditions to overcome, the team of eight girls ran a brilliant race to finish in 6th place overall, and taking the first female team prize.

The girls gave their all to secure this victory, and were taking on teams composed of many international athletes including Olympic athletes, and a recent silver medallist from the Asian Games.

Their proud coaches Ian and Teresa Wilson, who coach under Nuparc Wellness, said “Our girls ran their hearts out in Bahrain. They are terrific ambassadors for the sport of running. Their hard work, sacrifices and commitment to the training programmes we provide, are testament to this wonderful achievement”.

The athletes returned just in time for the Laois County Cross Country Championships in Stradbally on Sunday 2nd November, where they all performed very well, with most medalling in their respective races. “Now that these athletes have experienced an overseas trip, and it is an ideal preparation for them in the future when they may well travel to major competitions, where they fly in on a Friday and race on a Sunday” said Wilson.

“The confidence these athletes have now is tangible, and we are certain that they will go on to achieve much more in their athletic careers.” We look forward to following their progress in the future.
