ST Abban’s Atlethics Club outperformed all expectations at the weekend when their men’s team finished second in the Premier Section of the National League.

ST Abban’s Atlethics Club outperformed all expectations at the weekend when their men’s team finished second in the Premier Section of the National League.

Up against the top clubs in the country in fine conditions in the Tullamore Harriers Stadium in Tullamore, the Laois team were only behind the powerhouse that is Clonliffe Harriers when the final points were tallied.

Clonliffe finished with 118 point with St Abban’s second on 101 ahead of North Down on 99.5 points and Leeval on 97.5 points.

There were some fine individual performances with Brian Kelly first in the 800 metres and second in the 1500 metres, Paul Byrne second in the 400 metres hurdles, Declan Byrne third in the walk, Francis Egan third in the Long Jump, Baarry Pender joint first in the High Jump, Eoin Kelly first in the Triple Jump, Idan kelly third in the Hammer and Semaus Fitzpatrick second.

The ladies team also performed strongly finishing third in Division 1just behind Raheny Shamrocks and winners Clonliffe Harriers with Shauna Daly and Sarah Buggy winning their events
