Panthers show their claws to remain unbeaten

Portlaoise maintained there 100% record in St Marys Hall on Friday evening with a comprehensive victory over the newly formed Shooting Stars.

Portlaoise maintained there 100% record in St Marys Hall on Friday evening with a comprehensive victory over the newly formed Shooting Stars.

In a game that they dominated from start to finish where all Panthers players registered on the score sheet. The opening quarter was slow to start but once Panthers got going with scores from Katie Costello and Olive Maher they never looked back. Three baskets in a row from Kendell Mc Cormack saw them lead 16-7 at the end of the quarter.

They carried this momentum into a high scoring second quarter with a 3 pointer from Danielle Keane and scores from Aoife Brennan and Leanne Hayes under the boards widened the gap. Shooting stars never gave up but even with a 3 pointer from Siobhan Lalor, they still went in 40-18 down at half time.

 It was much the same in the second half from a dominant Portlaoise side as the scores continued. Defence was very tight in 3rd quarter for both teams so it was three pointers from Dorothy Fahy, Maria Malone and two in a row from Emma Colohan saw the Panthers go further ahead. As things came to an end in the last quarter the game opened and scores on the break from Siobhan O’Connor , Niamh Sweeney and Amy Dunphy saw Portlaoise finish with there biggest win of the season so far on a scoreline of 68-36.
