Portlaoise Panthers U-18 Boys team travelled to Kilkenny on Wednesday night to play their first game of this year’s Kilkenny league against Tramore.

The team were undefeated this year after two impressive wins in the Midlands. Portlaoise started off very edgy in the opening minutes until good play from the team led to a well taken basket from Conor O’Donovan.

Portlaoise’s momentum picked up and a three pointer from Tiernan Dempsey stretched their lead to five points in the opening quarter. Tramore hit back in the second quarter but good play from Shane San Augistin settled things once again along with some great scores from Sean Curtin.

Portlaoise came out attacking in the third quarter with back to back three pointers from Hugh Hackett. Shane Maughan was being a constant threat to Tramore and set up some easy baskets.

The team looked very comfortable in the final quarter with Benny Carroll finishing off some nice moves to the basket.

Alan Murphy closed the game out with two well taken scores to cap off an impressive twenty four point win. Each player on the team played good minutes and contributed well overall which left Coach Peter Duignan and Assistant Coach Jack Dooley very happy with the performance. The boys hope to continue their great run of form when they play at the weekend in the Midlands League.
