Laois Cycling and Touring Club are hosting their annual Spring Sportif will take place next Sunday, March 8th and once again have partnered with Portlaoise Men’s Sheds.
Joining the cyclists on the day is Paul Kimmage, Sports Journalist and former professional road cyclist.
Two routes are available, 100km to challenge experienced cyclists and a 60km route, which will be suitable for leisure cyclists with some mileage in their legs from winter training. Both groups will depart from the Portlaoise Equestrian Centre on the Timahoe Road at 10am.
The club are also delighted to welcome some of their newest members on the 60km route. This group started their training six weeks ago and are already ready to tackle this latest milestone. The club are still welcoming new members, at all levels, which meet every Sunday at the Maldron Hotel car park in Portloaise at 8.45 am.
All beginners should ensure they have a road worthy bike and a helmet. The usual beginners group will aim to travel 20km – 30km depending on the ability of the group and will always be accompanied by an experienced cyclist. Our intermediate leisure group are now covering distances each week of between 60 and 80km while our A group are averaging 90km spins. If you would like to join at any of these levels, please contact Michael email@example.com
Meanwhile the racing squad have already started to clock up points in the season’s opening races. The squad is currently made up of 15, but are always looking for new members.
If you’re interested in joining the racing team, you should already be familiar riding in a group with a good fitness combined with confidence on the bike. If you are a beginner and would like to get into racing, Brad recommends starting off with the leisure groups to build up and then move through the groups into the race training group.
Anyone from the squad will be happy to work with you and help you progress. Brad can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
