Ossory Cycling Club is a new cycling club which has been launched in the South Laois area.. It caters for all classes of cyclists from the leisure cyclist to the more competitive.
The club has progressively grown over the last few months and has now over 50 members. The club is registered with cycling ireland and have aquired their own jerseys. The group trains every Sunday morning from the square in Rathdowney. Everyone is welcome to join as the the cyclists are graded from the very good to the beginner. Already the club has had some success with some of the cyclists performing vey well at racing. Derek Byrne has done exceptionally well on the circuit with a couple of wins.
The Club is in the process of organising its first tour wich takes place from Rathdowney on Sunday 22nd April 2012. This will include a 50km for beginers and leisures cyclists starting at 11am. This would be an ideal opportunity for the whole family to enjoy with the added bonus of getting fit at the same time. The 100km is for the more adventures.taking in the scenic Slieve Blooms. Sign on from 9am starting at 10am. Foodstops at both events. A donation will be given to local charities.
The Club has recently been invited to take part in the Kildare cycling league. There are four other clubs involved NewbridgeCC, Kilculllen CC, South Dublin CC and Naas CC. Each Club hosts two stages with Ossory Cycling Club hosting on the 28th June and the 12th July. The cycling league caters for A4, A3, A2 cyclists and for anyone who wants to start racing.
