The final evening of the Leinster League took place in Tegral Sportsfield, Athy recently.
The Woodsmen team from Bunclody, Wexford went through the four evenings unbeaten, which left the remaining teams fighting it out for second place and the best of those were Dorans Bridge, Ferns and Gouleyduff, Athy.
The Gouleyduff lads defeated Dorans Bridge on the final evening and they had to beat the Woodsmen as well to force a play off, but unfortunately they came up short in that one and it left Dorans Bridge in second place.
In the second Division Monart, Wexford won on the evening to take the title, with Curracloe, Wexford in second place.
The presentation of prizes to winners and runners up was made in Purcells, The Bridge House, Athy by the chairman of HPAI Denis Ryan.
All Ireland Horseshoe Pitching Competitions
Horseshoe Pitchers from all over the country will travel in numbers to Ferns, Co Wexford next weekend 25th, 26th and 27th July for the All Ireland Horseshoe Pitching Open Pairs Competition on Friday 25th, starting 7 pm.
Inter County and Club Championship on Saturday 26th, starting 1.30 pm and the All Ireland Pairs Competition on Sunday 27th , starting 2 pm.
This promises to be a fantastic weekend of horseshoe pitching with the best pitchers in the country taking part. If you have a couple of spare hours on any of the three days why not come along and see one of the most ancient sports at its best.
