Swim season hots up for Laois Marlins

It was another great Gala for Laois Marlins last weekend as 23 swimmers competed at the ESB Gala in Dublin, which was run over two days.

It was another great Gala for Laois Marlins last weekend as 23 swimmers competed at the ESB Gala in Dublin, which was run over two days.

On day one Jack Rouget, Christian Kenny-Carroll, Sadhbh Kenny-Carroll, and Marlise Ponsioen put in great performances and recorded strong times at their first ever official gala. Christopher Carew, Ryan Flynn, Sinead Quinn, Alice Carew, Toni Dolan, Ross Doyle and Jacques Pretorius swam very well, recording big improvements on previous times, with Alice Carew topping the table by shaving off a combined total of almost eleven seconds.

Faith Bennett, Amy Pretorius, Toni Dolan and Sadhbh Kenny-Carroll took bronze in the U-10 freestyle relay as well asrecording great times in their individual events.

Competitors aged 13 and over took to the pool on Sunday. All swimmers improved their PB’s, with Jordan Overton and Aidan Nealon showing double-digit improvements. Also showing strong improvements were

Mick Carroll, Theresa Costello, Matthew Doyle, Ian Heffernan, Sarah Heffernan, Eada Hogan, Thomas Martin and Tyler Dolan.

Laois Marlins will be in action again over the next two weekends, competing in the Kilkenny Winter Gala and in the NUIM Gala at the NAC, Dublin.

The club currently has 72 members who train up to four times a week at the Portlaoise Leisure Centre.
