The season got off to a great start at Abbeyleix Tennis Club with a mixed grade “Fab Four” event which took place over February and March.

The season got off to a great start at Abbeyleix Tennis Club with a mixed grade “Fab Four” event which took place over February and March.

The competition was open to all club members and great tennis was played by all. The winning team on the night were Simon White, Fiona Bonham, Sinéad Stone and Michael Rafter. Runners up were David Brophy, Leisa Fitzgerald, Sinéad Gorman and Tim Mounsey. Thanks to all the supporters who came down on the final’s night.

On Easter Monday, ATC hosted a very successful one day event which was open to players from all clubs. 24 players battled it out with both doubles and mixed matches. Some great competitive tennis was played which resulted in very close matches. Well done to the winners Claire Mc Cormack and Alan McCormack who narrowly defeated Mary Daly and David Brophy.

At present, the club is running the Club Doubles competition kindly sponsored by O’ Donnells Pharmacy, Abbeyleix. Please check the club website for draws and schedules.

Abbeyleix Tennis Club are currently looking for new members to begin this new membership year.

Social tennis for beginners takes place every Wednesday night from 7.30pm and some coaching is provided. For primary school children, 12 weeks of fun tennis begins in June. The annual Castle Durrow Shield competition for our juvenile members takes place on Friday 26th April starting at 7pm. This competition is open to juvenile members with a seeded draw. Entry fee is just €5 which includes a BBQ/refreshments. Parents and visitors welcome to attend.
