A fantastic weekend for portlaoise boxing club was capped off by Micheal Nevin winning gold at the 45th Usti Nad Labem multi nations in the Czech Republic.
Micheal beat Arman Kevhikyan of Hungary 3-0 in the semi final and Gor Yerikysyan of Armenia by 2-1 in the final.
Fellow Irish boxer George Bates also claimed gold. Irish team manager Alan Martin said both fighters deserved their victories.

Meanwhile the next generation of boxers from Portlaoise also had a good weekend. Young Portlaoise Boxer’s Dean Brophy and Dylan Caldwell advanced to the semi final and final next week in the National Junior cadets in the National Stadium in Dublin. Brophy gave a super performance in beating Dublin champion Luke Carroll in the quarter-final on Saturday.
In other action, Eddie McDonagh defeated the Welsh champion while boxing for a Dublin selection in Wales
