MANY thanks to all the schools that supported a magnificent days sport at St Abban’s Sports Complex on Wednesday, when the Laois primary schools championships were decided.
With a record turnout that saw eight and nine heats in all sprints, all medals were keenly contested and richly deserved. When the final numbers were put together in excess of 500 children had taken part in a jam-packed four hours of sporting activities that included ball throwing, long and high jumping, sprinting, relay running and some middle distance.
Some exciting new talent was to the fore and augurs well for the development of sport in the county. Thanks to all the volunteers that ensured the programme ran smoothly and to the parents and teachers for looking after the children.
