Stump Jumpers is an adventure racing club in Portarlington founded in March 2011 by John Bolton, who captained Portarlington to their last SFC title in 2002, and Diane Cooper who is a lecturer of sports science in Athlone IT. The sport of adventure racing (Mountain Running,Cycling and Kayaking) has been growing in recent years.
The club was set up to get more people involved in adventure racing around the Portarlington area and has done so succesfuly gaining over 60 members in a year.
Stump Jumpers have had success in competition over the past year competing in the ‘‘Run - a - muck’’ challenge and will be taking part in the adventure race challenge WAR in Wicklow on 14th April.
Stump Jumpers aim for 2012 is to provide current adventure racers & newcomers with a means of training as a group for road cycling, mountain biking, running and kayaking. Members will have access to the most up todate scientific training methods, sports nutrition, functional training, navigation and kayak training. You dont need to be an adventure racer to join, you may just be into cycling, mountain running, mountain biking, orienteering or kayaking.
Training takes place twice a week, Hill Running; in Corrig Woods, Portarlington, Friday evenings 6.30pm to 7.30pm and Cycling; starting at True Fitness Studio, Unit 10 Business Park, Canal Road, Portarlington, at 10.00am on Sunday mornings. There will be loads more adventure races during the year to suit every level.
