Sarah Fleming was a constant threat today both offensively and defensively and opened up the scoring for Portlaoise from two superb rebounds which continued to dominate throughout the game.

Shauna Dooley quickly added her name to the score sheet with effortless fast break layups. Jasmine Burke stood out in her first game of the season with her impressive defence.

The second quarter saw a similar team performance from Portlaoise. Ella Byrne worked hard on offense and defense right through the game.

Superb teamwork between Rebecca Reddin, Ciara Byrne and Grainne O’Reilly saw Portlaoise push the gap between both sides further apart with all players impressively adding to the score. Portlaoise came out the winners at the end of the first half 30-02.

The second half saw new players add their names to the score sheet. Rachel Glynn made some impressive steals from the half way line and it all paid off in the end as her hard work was rewarded by fine baskets.

With ease Jessica Preston netted a great basket from outside the key to add her name and score to the already widening number between both sides. Caoimhe Sweeney’s rebounds along with Shauna Dooley’s teamwork paid also off under the boards as she netted her first score of the game in front of the basket.

In the last quarter, as hard as Waterford Vikings worked, there was no passing Ciara Byrne on defence and she comfortably registered some scores of her own. Waterford Vikings came out fighting throughout the game and never gave up but Portlaoise just proved to be too strong for their opposition.
