Portlaoise girls star at World Championships

Leah Loughman and Lauryn Higgins from Portlaoise were among the stars and among the medals at the World Karate and Kickboxing Commission (WKKC) World Championships held in the City West Hotel in Dublin at the start of October.

Leah Loughman and Lauryn Higgins from Portlaoise were among the stars and among the medals at the World Karate and Kickboxing Commission (WKKC) World Championships held in the City West Hotel in Dublin at the start of October.

Leah from Ballymacken and Lauryn from Maryborough Village, both train in local club ‘Tuatha de Danann’ with Shane Marum and John Ging.

At the world championships, Lauryn’s team won the gold medal in the team sparring and Leah won the silver medal in her Light Continuous Fights in a close fight split decision.

They had a very eventful year as they are both UK Champions in their weight divisions, Irish National Champions and they won recent fights in Tipperary. They trained with the Irish team in Palmerstown, Dublin.
