Final preparations are being conducted by Ossory CC for a major cycling road race Ras an Laois, which is being held on Easter Sunday, March 31.
It is a national event in conjunction with Cycling Ireland. It is open to A4 Men, A3 and A4 Women.
The route consists of 2 laps of 25 challenging kilometres.
The race starts and finishes in Rathdowney via Conoboro, Larry’s Cross, Mannon Cross, Knockaroo, Green Roads back to Rathdowney. This is the first time a cycling race of this magnitude is held in the South Laois area.
This event will attract some of the up and coming cyclists in the country, as it is a championship race where points are accumulated. Therefore a large number will attend.
OCC is planning that Ras an Laois will become an annual event in the Racing Calander.
A lot of training has occurred over the winter months by a team of Ossory Cyclists who will take part in the race.
Registration will take place in Rathdowney GAA centre. Sign on from 11.30 am and the race will start at 1pm sharp.
The club would like everyone to support this groundbreaking event in South Laois and to cheer on the local cyclists.
Great gratitude is expressed by the club to all volunteers who is making this event possible.
