Marlins clean up at Kilkenny Gala

Laois Marlins swimmers enjoyed a very successful outing at the Kilkenny Winter Gala last weekend winning nine medals as well as recording some very impressive PBs.

Laois Marlins swimmers enjoyed a very successful outing at the Kilkenny Winter Gala last weekend winning nine medals as well as recording some very impressive PBs.

Jordan Overton was in top form winning gold in all four events- Breaststroke, Freestyle, Butterfly and IM.

Zara McMahon was also in flying form taking gold in 50M Breaststroke and 50M Backstroke. Her younger brother Conor , in his very first gala, was delighted to win silver in the 50M Freestyle. It was also afirst outing for Michael Spillane who took bronze in the 50M Butterfly.

It was the first competitive gala for seven Laois Marlins- with Cliodhna Molloy, Ellen Garvey, Luke Smullen, Ciaran Costello and Greg Mulhall also recording very strong times placing them in the top 15 in a range of events, as did A and B squad members Ryan Flynn, Tyler Dolan, Toni Dolan and Alice Carew.

Christopher Carew won bronze in the 100M Breaststroke. Coach Irina Dawson congratulated all the swimmers for representing their club so well.

Laois Marlins will be in action again this weekend at the NUIM Gala at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin, before taking a well earned Christmas break.
