While not before its time, I am glad that the Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter has confirmed that a new Charities Regulator will be up and running by Easter.
Hopefully this will help restore some confidence and credibility to the sector in light of recent and ongoing revelations.
Following my calls to expedite the matter and requests from colleagues for clarity on the Government’s plans, the Minister has confirmed to the Senate that an interim Charities Regulator will be appointed before the end of February.
Expressions of interest for those who wish to be considered to serve on the board of the regulatory authority will be sought next week and the office will be up and running before Easter.
