€100,000 for coroners

Cllr Kathleen O’Brien believes the €100,000 budgeted for coroner’s fees for 2014 should not be paid by Laois County Council.

“This should be paid by the Department of Justice,” she said.

Coroners investigate sudden and unexplained deaths, deciding whether a post mortem and inquest are required. Laois’ coroners are Eugene O’Connor and Gerry Meagher of Rolleston’s Solicitors.
