100 calls to helpline are reviewed ‘internally’

Up to 100 phone calls have been made to the help line in Portlaoise hospital since the Prime Time programme aired.

The HSE said the calls varied from “feedback and other comments” from the public to calls relating to “clinical cases or complaints regarding the care”.

The HSE said an ‘internal’ review team in place which consists of two consultant obstetricians, a divisional nurse manager and an administrator. It said this team would respond to queries raised by callers.

The HSE sad contact has been made with the two of the families who were the subject of the RTÉ programme to meeting them and update them on reports into the care received. Counselling will be available, as required.
