Superintendent Yvonne Lundon was encouraging the public to report more crimes at the Garda Station, rather than using the Garda Confidential line.
“By the time we arrive at the scene, the person has moved up the road and sometimes it can be difficult to proseucte unless there is CCTV in the area.”
Supt Lundon said the Garda Confidential Line was still very important, but they also needed sufficient evidence to arrest and charge a person.
“If a person leaves their name and number we can get a statement from them. We need sufficient evidence to arrest a person and bring them to the station and to court.”
In response to a question, Supt Lundon said that every call is attended to.
