“He seems to have lost all interest in living,” said solicitor, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick, in the case of a 29-year-old Latvian national who stole razors and blades from Dunnes Stores, Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise.

Jevgenijs Perepecajs, 25 The Beeches, Forest Park, Portlaoise, stole the items worth just over €50 on March 26 this year. He had previous convictions for theft.

“This is his fourth theft and I gave him every opportunity,” said Judge Catherine Staines. “This happened just two months after he was placed on probation.”

“When I first met him I had concerns about his mindset,” admitted Ms Fitzpatrick.

“This can’t go on any longer, I’ve given you every chance,” the judge warned Perepecajs, imposing a six-month sentence suspended for two years on his own bond of €100.
